From our ANI Correspondent
Kathmandu, Mar 22 2007: The United Nations has allocated 88.8 million dollars in its 2007-08 budget for its mission in Nepal.
The Fifth Committee of the UN General Assembly, which looks after administrative and budgetary matters, is all set to approve the budget for the United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN) on Thursday.
All member states have agreed to the budget in "informal consultations", Kantipur quoted Madhu Raman Acharya, Nepal's Ambassador to the UN, as saying.
The UNMIN will have 186 military inspectors, besides electoral experts and police and civil administration teams.
Acharya said the UN mission will have 1,080 personnel - 389 national, 280 international and 258 UN volunteers.
On January 23, the UN Security Council unanimously adopted a UK-sponsored resolution, authorising the establishment of the UNMIN as proposed by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon.
The UN Secretary-General's Special Representative, Ian Martin, will brief the media on Thursday afternoon on the latest developments in New York concerning Nepal.
